Tiong Bahru boasts a number of great cafes, ranging from the first Tiong Bahru Bakery, Merci Marcel, Plain Vanilla, Tians (amazing gluten-free bakery). There are also plenty of tasty local options around, our favourite - Granny's Pancakes, which is located inside Tiong Bahru Plaza.
Although it may not be the Central Business District (CBD), don't be fooled, Tiong Bahru is up there in the list of central areas in Singapore. It's a quick 20 minute walk or short 2-stop MRT journey to the CBD. It is close to the Singapore River where you can enjoy a brisk evening walk and is not far from popular hiking spots such as Southern Ridges, Henderson Waves or Mount Faber Park.
Due to Tiong Bahru's heritage, it is very different to other popular neighbourhoods in Singapore. Most of the buildings here are low-rise heritage shophouses, which gives a relaxed and laid back atmosphere. Tiong Bahru is home to a number of quirky boutique stores and is definitely a must-see place even if you don't live here!
